The inevitibility of getting older has been a hard pill for many to swallow and one that many have tried to reverse. Ageing (spelt the British way) or aging (spelt in the USA) is the process of getting older and unfortunately time and tide wait for no man, the clock is always running, you can’t stop the march of time, but it is possible to slow down its inevitable effects.

THE SIGNS OF AGEING
The first grey hair, the beginning of an expanding waist, the initial wrinkle, most of the signs of getting old can be ignored, but a point comes when they can not be disregarded so easily.
Many of the reason for aging are still not totally understood, what is obvious is the human body simply wears out, cells don’t renew themselves or at best, don’t renew themselves as well.
The common misconception that medical science has increased the human lifespan is not true, improved sanitation and medical advances have increased the average life expectancy, meaning statistically more people are seeing well into their old age. Extended individual lifespan however is still stuff of science fiction.
CAUSES OF SKIN AGING
The way your skin ages is complex, genetics and how much you sunbathe play big parts in how many deep wrinkles will appear. But there are great many other things which will have an influence, pollution, free-radical damage, smoking, chronological aging, hormone depletion, immune suppression, oxygen depletion, collagen destruction, reduced cell turnover, abnormal cell formation, decreased fat content, intercellular deficiency, genetically predetermined cell shutdown, hormone loss.
It is these seeming limitless reasons for skin aging which make one cure all treatment so impossible.
WHEN YOUR SKIN IS OLD
Younger skin has more fat cells in the dermis than older skin, one of the reasons older skin looks more transparent and thinner than younger skin and why overweight people tends to have fewer wrinkles.
As we age the supporting fat tissues decrease, the bone deteriorates and facial muscles lose their shape and firmness. While all this is going on the skin continues to grow and expand, this is why the skin begins to sag, and the face takes on an ever more drooping appearance.
Other skin qualities deplete with age. The water-retaining and texture-enhancing components become exhausted and no longer replenish as well. Collagen and elastin, the skin’s support structures, are damaged and deteriorate. Older skin due to a weakening immune system is more subject to allergic reactions, sensitivities, and irritation.
On a cellular level, the cells stop regenerating at the same rate or in the same way as they did when we were younger. Abnormally shaped cells change the texture of the skin and prevent it from retaining water. This is why older skin is usually drier than younger skin.
PRODUCTS UNLIKELY TO HELP
Many companies claim to produce products which counteract the symptoms or cause of aging. DNA and RNA products even claim to counteract the depletion produced by your cells genetic coding. Would you really want to mess with your DNA using an off the shelf product? Anyway they cant, if they could they’d have the cure for cancer.
Other companies put collagen and elastin into their products, unfortunately they can’t bond to the collagen and elastin in your skin, although they still work as moisturizing ingredients, plumping up the top layer of skin and giving a temporary boyish appeal.
Other companies use Ingredients like ceramides and hyaluronic acids, but there is no research demonstrating that they prevent the skins continuing depletion.
HOW CAN I LOOK YOUNGER
The truth is that growing old is inevitable, what is possible, is to counteract the sun and slow the process. Try these:
Instant Facelift – You can firm and tighten skin, and reduce lines wrinkles and under eye bags by using a serum that contains Argireline. This is derived from Acetyl hexapeptide-3, a peptide that is found in Botox that can affect how cells in the body work. Whilst Botox is expensive and administered via needle, anti-aging skin care products that contain Argireline are rubbed in the skin to achieve similar results. See Instant Facelift Cream
Sunscreen. Its simple sun damage causes skin aging, if you’re going to go in the sun use a high factor sunscreen. See sunscreens
Cleanser if your skin is clean and irritant free it will help any healing the skin needs to do. Also the act of washing your face increases circulation and improves cell regeneration. See cleansers
A moisturiser or mask with RETIN-A helps combat abnormal cell production caused by sun damage. Grooming Health recommends
AHAs (fruit acids or Alpha hydroxyl acids) these are non-abrasive exfoliators and masks which make your skin smoother and softer.
Antioxidants that neutralise free radicals, the reactive molecules often caused by pollution which age your skin, these can be plant extracts, tea extracts or vitamins. Vitamin E is good because it also is a natural skin moisturizer, also try vitamin C as it helps collagen production. See antioxidants
FREE RADICALS, A MAJOR CAUSE OF AGEING
Free radicals are the major cause of a great number of illnesses and diseases including cancer and aging. As you probably remember from your school days, atoms consist of a nucleus, neutrons, protons and electrons. Oxygen molecules are always found in pairs, however, when oxygen molecules are involved in a chemical reaction, caused by any number of reasons, such as pollution or the sun, they can lose one of their electrons and become unstable, these unstable molecules are called free radicals. To become stable again free radicals seek out the nearest electron which it will take from another molecule. Shunting from one chemical to another damaging proteins, fat, cell membranes, and genetic material on the way.
FIGHTING FREE RADICALS
Eating antioxidants and, possibly, using antioxidants in skin-care products, plays a part in reducing free-radical damage. Antioxidants are ingredients such as vitamins A, C, and E, superoxide, dismutase, flavonoids, beta carotene, glutathione, selenium, and zinc. Antioxidant are heralded as the fountain of youth and a great deal of research is going into them, but until the perfect cure is developed you can slow down the aging process by increasing your intake of antioxidants by a number of supplements and combining this with plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables in your diet.
WATCH YOUR WAIST LINE
From your late twenties your metabolic rate will start to slow down. You can eat the same food and do the same amount of exercise at 30 as you did at 20, but your weight will not remain the same.
Towards the end of your forties testosterone will decline, this will continue throughout the rest of your life. This is significant because testosterone stimulates growth in the brain skeleton and muscles and without it they will gradually weaken. Cells in the heart, kidneys, brain and the eyes won’t renew themselves, so once they wear out they won’t be replaced.
Certain supplements can help.
Everybody has stress in some form provided by pressure in their life, it could be screaming bosses, howling babies, clueless colleagues, the list is endless.
Whatever the cause of the stress finding some way to deal with it is essential for your health, the solution could be as simple as leaving your desk for a 15-minute break and taking a walk away from the pressure.
KEEP THE BRAIN SHARP
By the time you reach 45 your brain is losing 50,000 cells a day from the cerebral cortex.
Keep the mind stimulated and you will be likely to preserve intellectual function, read, stay up to date with current events, argue politics, take up a challenging hobby, learn a new language.
